Bombastic Acoustic Indie-Pop
The Buffali are a bombastic acoustic indie-pop duo from Madison, WI. Featuring quirky vocal interplay and catchy melodies, this irreverent girl/guy outfit romps through material about everything from heartbreak to alien abduction. Their songwriting incorporates influences ranging from the Beatles to Tenacious D, with a healthy dose of country and blues thrown in. The duo brings an infectious glee to their live show, combining originals with an eclectic mix of covers from hip-hop to oldies.
Clare Fehsenfeld and Andrew Yonda met in 2001 at Nottingham Co-op while attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Locally renowned for the large number of musicians that lived there, Nottingham regularly put together shows featuring a variety of experimental, hard-core and bizarre musical acts. In the midst of this avant-garde environment, Andrew and Clare's mutual affinity for pop music set them apart. The duo recorded their first ever song in 2003 (an improv hip-hop tune called "Sweet Potato Pie" - about their vegetarian co-op dinner) and proclaimed themselves the Buffali. Their first show was played to their housemates and friends at the co-op, and about a month later they decided that the band would be their career. Three years down the road, they tour nationally, have released two favorably-reviewed albums, and do the band more or less full-time. Andrew's unbounded optimism acts as counterpoint to Clare's ferocious focus, and both have an intense passion and drive to make the band part of their lives for as long as possible. The Buffali, meanwhile, have garnered a laundry list of excellent reviews, awards and honors and radio airplay.
